1:00pm - 2:00pm EST - Monet: Light With Brushstroke and Texture, Rebecca Sher '00
Claude Monet's iconic paintings of gardens, seascapes and grainstacks are familiar to 21st Century viewers as dreamy, light-filled images bursting with colorful pigments, layered and almost glowing with light. However, in the 1870's, when he began exhibiting, his Impressionist canvases were considered shocking, unfinished and a threat to the previous two centuries of sanctioned French Academy paintings.
In this presentation, we'll view a sampling of the MFA Boston's unsurpassed collection of Monet's paintings and discuss why his techniques were so seismic through the lens of the 19th Century art oeuvre.
A wonderful summation of the Impressionist Movement can be viewed through the following link. It was created at the Tate Modern in London for kids, but honestly, it's such fun and a nice prep for this presentation.
