Do you have any musical instruments or accessories that you can donate?
Chicago Wellesley Club is partnering with Bravo Waukegan, a non-profit that brings music to Waukegan Public Schools, to conduct a musical instrument collection drive. Waukegan has a very challenging economy and has severely cut music programs in the schools. Studies have shown a positive correlation between music education and intellectual development, engagement in school, and stress relief. Bravo Waukegan has sponsored music lessons and camps, even during the pandemic quarantine. Bravo has helped create orchestral groups, jazz bands, a JROTC drama nd bull corps and four mariachi bands in the Waukegan schools. It provides uniforms to students for bands and orchestras, and cleans and repairs all instruments annually. Estimates are that Bravo reaches between 9,000 -11,000 students.
We are looking for used band or orchestra instruments, especially small size string instruments. Guitars are particularly desirable. No pianos please! We will accept instruments requiring repair, as well as new or used music accessories, such as music stands.
In addition, Chicago Wellesley Club seeks the following:
- Free access to a facility or facilities in the Chicagoland area for collection and storage during a one-week period in late March/early April
- Volunteers to collect drive-up donations (socially distanced) during drop off times (est. 3 hour shift)
- Drivers with vans for delivery of instruments in early April from collection points to Waukegan.
