A letter from President Sandra Willett Jackson . . .
Warm greetings, 1965 Classmates!
Your eight officers have formed a tight team to discuss class topics on our monthly conference calls. Such regular conversations have fostered new — strengthened existing — friendships among women who didn’t know each other well, or at all, when we were on campus — proving that Wellesley women are, quite simply, exceptionally interesting and productive!
So, SAVE THE DATE: JUNE 5-7, 2020, for our 55th Class Reunion!
What gives me such confidence that our 55th will be a personal, inspiring and extraordinary weekend together is the recent May Mini-Reunion held in Chicago — the first-ever, all-class mini-reunion for Green Light, Dynamite. We organized three days of cultural, gourmet/gourmand, thoughtful and relaxing activities, mixed with free time and a comfy hospitality suite in which to chill with some 40 classmates who gathered for what attendees reported was a home run!
Highlights?
- A casually elegant reception at Sandra Polk Guthman’s gorgeous home filled with art treasures
- Chicago Architectural Foundation Boat Tour on the Chicago River with special guide arranged by Elizabeth Kinney
- Informal discussion groups before dinner at the University Club: Being Mortal; facilitated by Jan Stone Curtis; Living Options (CCRCs), facilitated by Barbara Bolln Monsler; and racism (no official facilitator). The racism group decided to continue as an online discussion group. If you’re interested in participating, contact Ann Ordway Mahoney (apmahoney@me.com).
- Private guided tour of the Art Institute of Chicago
- Farewell Brunch with husbands and significant others
Several classmates got tickets to Hamilton, Macbeth or the CSO performance. Others found the BEST restaurants. All had a blast!
Lucy Carpenter Vance’s “thank you” note captured everyone’s feelings about taking a chance to join known and not-well-known classmates for a long weekend in Chicago:
The reunion exceeded all my expectations. I don't know when I have experienced such loving support and so many similar interests and concerns. We do have an amazing class!
As we look ahead to our big 55th reunion, JUNE 5-7, 2020, I hope we can remember that our class cohesion, and ultimately the College, depends on relationships — old and new — that link extraordinary women to a unique institution that nurtured, inspired and propelled us through decades of personal growth, community contributions and leadership in ways large and local.
Please think hard about the pleasure and privilege of serving our class and college by volunteering for our next phase:
Class Officers 2020-2025: president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, class fund officers (two or more), planned giving officer, and Durant scholar officer.
Class Reunion Chair or Co-Chairs: As well as a variety of team members who work with the College to create a fabulous 55th reunion weekend June 5-7, 2020.
Please think about building a new team of friends and classmates with a broad geographic reach or a concentrated cluster of friends to lead the Class of 1965 forward into the 2020s.
If you’re interested in serving as a class officer (2020-2025) or a reunion chair, co-chair or team member, please contact Susan, Carolyn or myself, and we’ll provide information about officers’ responsibilities.
Have a lovely end-of-summer; and please let us hear from you before an active fall takes over your schedule.
Thank you so much for all you do for the Class of 1965!
All best,
Sandra
