Pat Darcy Alexander introduced us to beading techniques and beading as a spiritual practice. Throughout history, humans have found meaning in adorning their bodies and dwellings with beads, as well as using beads for prayer and ceremonies. While Pat discussed beading as a form of mindfulness, she also taught beginner beading techniques via simple hands-on projects -- two easy bracelets and a pair of earrings.
At Wellesley, Pat was an English major. She also took many art history and studio art classes. After graduation, she worked in New York City in publishing, retail, and advertising. Once married, she moved to Philadelphia and became executive director of a small business association for Chestnut Hill, a National Historic District. Her proudest accomplishment there was founding an annual arts and crafts festival that is still popular some 30 years later.
