Barbara Holway Ilias ’63 Memorial Lecture Featuring Jennifer Piscopo '02

This talk is the fourth in our "Barbara Holway Ilias '63 Memorial Lecture Series," which seeks to honor Barbara, elevate the voices of Wellesley alumnae in the UK, and introduce our alumnae to new ideas and information. Register to attend here.

Synopsis of the talk

The Women's Rights Era: 50 Years of Gender Equality Advocacy and Reform across the Globe

In 1975, thousands of women activists around the globe converged on Mexico City for the First World Conference on Women. This UN convening launched a 50-year period of feminist mobilization and gender equality reform. This talk reviews the gains of the women’s rights era against the current trend: a global wave of de-democratization and right-wing populism. Come for the optimism about the past and stay for stories of women’s resilience in the present.

Our evening will run as follows:

6:00-6:45: Networking / drinks & nibbles

6:45-7:30: Jennifer's Lecture and Q&A

7:30-8:00: Further networking / drinks and nibbles
