President’s Message

President’s Message

Welcome!

Welcome to Wellesley on Long Island! WOLI exists to promote connections between the more than 325 alumnae who call Long Island home and to strengthen our connection with Wellesley. We hope this site will become your “go to” place for information about local club events and to find out what’s going on at the College. Visit regularly to learn about upcoming events, see photos of past gatherings, and use your personal log-in to access a directory of Long Island alumnae.

From our President:

Greetings Wellesley-on-Long Island (WoLI)!

Spring has finally arrived. The days are getting longer, temperatures are warming up, and we can look forward to the leaves and flowers coming into full bloom. We can also look forward to our Annual June Supper! The June Supper gives us an opportunity to see old friends, make new ones, and join or renew our membership for WoLI. We will also have our Annual Meeting at the time where we will discuss past events, brainstorm for future events and elect WoLI Board Members.

More information about the June Supper, Elections and Dues is included below.

June Supper, Annual Meeting and Lecture
(and Opportunity to Join or Renew Your WoLI Membership)

Saturday, June 29, 2019, 4 to 7 pm

at the home of Pat Matos-Puente, ‘80
5 Pitch Pine Court, Northport, New York.

Connect with other alums and enjoy a lecture by

Elizabeth (Beth) R. DeSombre
Camilla Chandler Frost Professor of Environmental Studies, Wellesley College

“How (not) to Save the Environment”*

Please RSVP to Pat Matos-Puente by June 22,
631-239-5484 or puente98@yahoo.com

with your requested potluck contribution: an appetizer, salad, entrée, wine or dessert item that will serve at least 8. Late responders may be assigned an item to bring.

Environmental problems are serious and our behavior needs to change to address them, but the primary ways many people attempt to make that happen (with information, guilt, or fear) are ineffective or even counterproductive. We'll talk about why, as well as what better strategies are for changing environmental behavior.

Election of 4 Board Members
At the Annual Meeting, paid members are eligible to vote for the four Board positions: President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer.
Nominations for these positions can be made during the Annual Meeting.

We will also look to fill the other non-elected positions of:

  • Nominating Chair

  • Club SIG Representative

Wellesley-on-Long Island (WoLI) - Our Purpose

Wellesley on Long Island (WoLI) Club, like other Wellesley Clubs around the country and around the world, provides an opportunity for Alumnae to keep connected to the College and to one another. It provides a place to share ideas; it provides a place to support one another; it helps promote life-long learning through faculty lectures, book groups, and educational events; and it provides an opportunity to assist the Admissions Office by recruiting the next generation of Wellesley women. All alumnae who live or work on Long Island are welcome to join and to participate as much or as little as your life’s commitments will allow. All are invited to share ideas for programming and events. All are invited to take on a volunteer role on the Board.

I, and the Board, look forward to seeing you at these upcoming events, and, as always, we welcome any and all ideas for events and programs.
