WCLA Book Club - June 23rd 2019

Nonfiction - "Beyond Belief: My Secret Life Inside Scientology and My Harrowing Escape" by Jenna Miscavige Hill

The WCLA Book Club is open to all Wellesley alumnae and includes a wide range of ages. The Club meets one Sunday a month. We read a wide variety of genres and try to keep a good mix of fiction and nonfiction. Books and dates for each month are picked at the preceding month's meeting. Anyone who wants to be added to the book club distribution list is welcome to join! Our June meeting is Sunday June 23rd at 1PM in the Central Court at LACMA (between the book store and the LACMA Cafe). For June we decided to choose a nonfiction book by Jenna Miscavige Hill called "Beyond Belief: My Secret Life Inside Scientology and My Harrowing Escape."

Jenna Miscavige Hill, niece of Church of Scientology leader David Miscavige, was raised as a Scientologist but left the controversial religion in 2005. In Beyond Belief, she shares her true story of life inside the upper ranks of the sect, details her experiences as a member Sea Org—the church's highest ministry, speaks of her "disconnection" from family outside of the organization, and tells the story of her ultimate escape.

Please note that if it's too cold to sit outside, the book club will meet inside the LACMA Cafe.

Parking: Either in the LACMA garage ($12) or street parking around LACMA at meters which on Sundays are typically free.

RSVP: Ottavia Montingelli
