A Zoom panel on assisting in Hollywood between alums Laura Reddy, Boafoa Offei-Darko, and Alina Mota, moderated by Katie Barsotti. We will discuss how to get an entry-level job in a writers room, agency, or studio/network — as well as how to keep the job, when to leave, and how to move up the ladder. Can't wait to see you all!
Boafoa Offei-Darko (c/o 2011) is a staff writer on Freeform's Good Trouble. She has worked as a personal assistant and a writers' assistant on shows such as David Makes Man, For the People, The Fix, Queen Sugar, and The Fosters.
Laura Reddy currently works at Range Media Partners, a new management and production company headquartered in Los Angeles. Previously, she worked at United Talent Agency in the Motion Picture Talent, and Asian Business Development departments. Before moving to LA in 2016, she worked at ABC News in NY for 5 years, producing for Nightline, and Lincoln Square Productions, ABC’s documentary unit. Laura was born in Beijing, and grew up on the East Coast. She attended Wellesley College for her B.A., and Goldsmiths, University of London for her M.A.
A Los Angeles native, Alina Mota ('18) started working in the mailroom at United Talent Agency shortly after graduating from Wellesley and went on to assist agent Carolyn Sivitz ('99) – a partner in the Motion Picture Literary Department – who represents creatives such as Desiree Akhavan and Eliza Hittman. Over a year later, Alina transitioned into the studio side of the industry and is working for the SVP of Development/Production at Walt Disney Motion Pictures Studios who has overseen projects such as ALADDIN (2019) and MALEFICENT: MISTRESS OF EVIL (2019).
Katie Barsotti currently works as a writers' assistant on Doogie Kamealoha, MD. Previously she was script coordinator on Queens of the Desert and assistant to Rachna Fruchbom through Ms. Fruchbom's development deal. She also writes freelance for various humor sites.
