2019 Annual Meeting

Please join the Wellesley Club of Minnesota for the 2019 Annual Meeting. This favorite annual tradition includes lunch, a lecture from a visiting Wellesley professor, an update on club operations, and time spent with friends. If you are new to Minnesota or hoping to connect with more Wellesley women, this is a perfect opportunity.

Our gathering in Minnetonka is generously hosted by Erika Rosenhagen  '94 in her Minnetonka home.  Our lecture this year is by Professor Lidwien Kapteijns, Kendall-Hodder Professor of History.  “History and Song in the Somali Sixties” will focus on the exuberant cultural production that characterized Somalia in the time surrounding the achievement of political independence in 1960. It will mention the challenges that proved impossible to overcome and led to the civil war that brought so many Somalis to Minnesota (and elsewhere), it will focus on how Somalis expressed their hopes for an authentically Somali modernity in the 1960s.

Professor Kapteijns has taught African and Middle Eastern History for over thirty years. She has published widely about the history of Somalia and Sudan, and has coedited a number of publications of historical sources in Arabic and Somali. Her moist recent monograph is Clan Cleansing in Somalia: The Ruinous Legacy of 1991 (University of Pennsylvania Press, 2013).  You can learn more about Professor Kapteijns here.

Deadline extended!  RSVP no later than mindnight on Sunday, April 28.
