Old Croton Aqueduct

On a chilly Saturday afternoon, a group of alumnae and guests toured a portion of the tunnel in the Old Croton Aqueduct in Ossining. We also got to see the beautiful Double Arch Bridge. Construction of the aqueduct began in 1842 in order to supply fresh water to the growing New York City. Before the tour, our guide form the Friends of the Old Croton Aqueduct gave a presentation on the history and the construction of the tunnel, an engineering marvel of its time. Despite the chilly weather, a good time was had by all.
