Greetings from Washington, DC!
I want to start off by saying thank you to all of the WLAN community members who have decided to join the WLAN Board as I know we have a year ahead full of many exciting opportunities. I joined the WLAN Board after our former WLAN President Dolores Arredondo took charge and loved every second of it that I decided to run for President this 2018-2019 year. I am proud of how much we've accomplished as a community, whether it's talking to parents in Spanish to encourage them to let their daughters attend Wellesley, answer questions to prospective students... and of course all of the in-person interactions we have with current students and young alums!
WLAN continues to make great strides and we have just named our new slate of officers for 2018-2019. We have included a complete list of officers with their brief biography to introduce you to the board. Although all officer roles are now filled, we still have several regional representative opportunities. I encourage you to consider volunteering as a WLAN regional representative or to get involved with your local clubs.
I want to take this moment to thank Joanne Romero '94 and Luisa Bonillas '94 who are now transitioning off the WLAN board. WLAN has been successful in large part due to their contributions and service to the group.
As a reminder, the purpose of WLAN is to strengthen the connection of alumnae of Latina/Hispanic descent to each other, to the College, and to current as well as prospective students. To support this vision, WLAN has the following three strategic priorities: (1) Admission/Recruitment—Increase the number of prospective and incoming Latina students, (2) College Connection –Partner with the College to optimize efforts, and (3) Alumnae Community – Increase the visibility of WLAN members and build a pipeline of leaders.
I hope you will enjoy our featured newsletter sections highlighting many of our WLAN members plus we have a special bylined article on this year’s Latinx Month organized by Wellesley students:
